The BBSST is a school-based problem solving organization whose members may be composed of general educators, counselors, administrators and other individual as needed. This team meets to discuss issues related to specific needs of teachers and students. The major functions of the Building Student Support Team are to:
Meet the needs of general education students who are at risk of academic failure and/or chronic behavior challenges.
Provide a professional forum for identification of social, academic and emotional needs of students.
Help the general education teacher document and develop an action plan designed to remediate the referring concern(s) and
If appropriate, recommend special education referral following eight -ten weeks of implementing appropriate interventions and accommodations in the regular classroom setting.
Staff members and parents may make a referral to the BBSST any time throughout the school year. Contact the BBSST facilitator at the school.
